The First Trial

The First Trial

The first week of passion project has been very exciting and at the same time it has been very fast paced. In the very first week I realized how much effort I would have to put in over the two years and how quickly I'd have to prepare for my deliverables. For the first week I was to prepare one dish which one of my friends could cook using my instructions.

For this I had to first find a dish and practice it. While brainstorming which dish would be feasible for a 16 y/o student to cook without wanting to give up,  I researched on the reasons why collegites choose to refrain from trying out cooking. I was not surprised to see  that most children were scared to try it due to the possible mess they could make,  the time it took and the fact that they didn't possess the skills to cook. These deterrents were my main guide lines to choose a dish. After a day I finalized on 'unda roti' with a cheesy schezwan twist as teenagers would enjoy eating it, it was fast to cook, and required minimal skill.  After three days of cooking the unda roti by myself and refining the original recipe used I converted a 10 min recipe into a 3 and a half minute recipe.

Following my success in reducing the time taken to for someone to cook it,  I got two of my peers to cook my recipe. This allowed me to understand if my practice and edits to the recipe were successful. Taking their feedback I got to know that despite them not having many skills in cooking they were able to cook the fish in 5 mins. This was a point of realization for me as I found out that what may take me 3 and a half minutes to cook took other more than five minutes. This indicated that for the rest of the recipes I work on I should keep in mind that they may take more time than me so I should speed it up as fast as possible. They also appreciated the preciseness of the ingredients used.

Overall I met my deadline and was successful in helping my friends become more confident in their abilities to cook.

These are a few photos and videos of my experiences...
