The First Recipe

Anda Roti

Ingredients
  • ·        1 egg
  • ·        Butter (50g)
  • ·        1 small chopped onion (1/4 cup)
  • ·        Chilli flakes and oregano (1 sachet each)
  • ·        Pizza topping (1tbsp)(preferably Dr Oetkers)*
  • ·        1 Cheese slice (Amul or any other local cheese brand)
  • ·        1 Homemade roti/ paratha (Indian bread)
  • ·        Salt (to taste)

Utensils
  • ·        Spatula
  • ·        Frying Pan
  • ·        Mixing bowl
  • ·        Fork
  • ·        Butter knife
  • ·        2 Plates (1 to serve and 1 to collect the waste)
  • ·        Pan cover

Procedure
  • ·        Take the small onion and cut it into very small pieces using a knife or an onion chopper.
  • ·        Crack the egg using the edge of the mixing bowl (or you can try using a spoon).
  • ·        Gently pinch the crack over the mixing bowl and open the egg carefully.
  • ·        Put the frying pan on the stove on low flame.
  • ·        Mix the onions, chilli flakes, oregano and salt to taste.
  • ·        Take the fork and make circular movement to beat the egg (You may attempt to do this faster to complete the egg beating process faster but be careful to avoid splatters)
  • ·        Check the temperature of the pan by putting your hand over it at a safe distance. It has to be hot enough to sizzle the butter but not burn it.
  • ·        Add the cube of butter and spread it evenly across the pan.
  • ·        Quickly add the egg mix to the centre of the pan and move the pan to spread the egg evenly.
  • ·        Cover the pan and let it cook on low flame for a minute.
  • ·        In this minute apply the pizza topping on the roti and spread it across.
  • ·        Remove the cover and test if the egg is strong enough to flip by trying to slide the spatula underneath the omelette.
  • ·        Flip the omelette when cooked.
  • ·        Place the roti with the pizza topping on the omelette.
  • ·        Flip the omelette one last time to get the roti in contact with the pan.
  • ·        Put small slices of cheese on one half of the omelette.
  • ·        Fold the side without cheese onto the cheese covered side to form a sort of a closed sandwich and let it stay for a second or two to melt the cheese a little.
  • ·        Remove the Anda roti from the pan and onto a plate but be careful to not touch the hot pan to it if using plastic or melamine plate

·        AND you have your Anda Roti ready to eat. Serve it hot.
·        Total time for Cooking 5 minutes excluding onion chopping time
·        With onion chopping time 6-7 minutes based on the person cooking’s ability to cut the onions.
