Chai Chha Tea
Did you know that tea comes originally from China so the word "tea" comes from there as well. Tea, in mandarin, is called cha. It is cha in Japanese, Hindi and Persian, shai in Arabic, ja in Tibetan, chai in Russian and chay in Turkish.
As an Indian, especially if you are a resident of Gujarat like me, you would know of the importance of cha or tea in our daily life. It is the first thing that is consumed in the morning in almost every house that does not consume coffee. It is also something that is immediately offered in most homes you visit. If friends are meeting up, well cha kitli is the usual meeting place.
So with this level of importance given to a beverage, I could not stop myself from posting a video on how to make cha or tea. This recipe shows the simple steps to make tea. For tea the basic ingredients are water and tea powder and then of course, the individual preferences play its role in whether you add sugar, milk, cinnamon powder, ginger paste, lemon grass, cardamom or mint leaves. In fact some even add saffron to tea. The options are many and often depends on what has been the preferred way as a region, culture, family, etc in the way you make the tea.
In the video I am showing how to make the most common style of tea – with water, sugar, milk and tea leaves along with added flavour of ginger and cardamom. It is my favourite combination in tea especially when exhausted after loads of paper solving or enjoying the rains.
Watch the video and do try this recipe. Do remember that when making tea one should be careful about safety especially when handling the vessel and pouring the tea into the cup. If the hot tea falls on your skin, immediately put it under running tap water or apply ice on to it for some time. If the burning persists, do go to the doctor for a check up.
But not to get scared, accidents in kitchen are usually easy to handle..so enjoy making the tea from the video on TeenCooking 101
